Through the scheme any employee can benefit from a Workplace and Business English training course commissioned by his/her company with funding for up to 50% of the training costs, subject to a maximum of HK$3,000 per employee. This makes the provision of work-based English language courses economically attractive to employers; leading to a more competent and professional workforce.
In addition, the requirement to perform a business English examination provides each employee with an internationally recognised English benchmark level and certificate. Hong Kong Institute of Languages favours the Cambridge Board of Examinations’ BULATS assessment. We believe this is the most practical and comprehensive assessment of business English proficiency, as well as the most widely accepted worldwide.
The application process is simple. All your company needs to do is submit an application form together with a copy of their company’s business registration certificate, a copy of your letter of employment and Hong Kong identity card, as well as a copy of the course outline provided for you by our institute.
After the course, you are required to take an examination to check whether or not you have attained your benchmark levels in order to qualify for the reimbursement of fees.
If you do not achieve your benchmark, the scheme will not reimburse your training or testing fees. However, you will have a period of 12 months from the start of your initial training to attain your benchmark level and retake the test. There is no further funding available for additional training or for the BULATS assessment.
If you have already received funding, you are not eligible for the funding a second time.
