At Upper Intermediate Level, a lot of time is spent on skills work, particularly focusing on how language is used in different genres. Grammar work mostly contrasts different structures and concepts, exploring the differences between them, and looking at when it is appropriate to use them.
Topics include: living overseas; describing your career; attitudes to money; tourism and ecology; television; book and film reviews; expressing interest and surprise; understanding and telling jokes; and writing formal and informal letters.
By the end of the course, you will be able to use the language creatively and appropriately in any general work or social environment. You may also choose to sit the Cambridge First Certificate (FCE).
