HK Institute of Languages Director receives France's highest academic honour

On Monday 28th May, Christian Chasset, co-founder and Director of the Institute, received the prestigious “Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques” award from the Consul General of France. This award, which translates as “Knight of the Order of Academic Palms”, is only made to scholars and educators who have made an outstanding contribution to the promotion of French language and culture. Established by Napoleon in 1808, it is the oldest French civil award, and the most prestigious decoration an educator can receive from the French Government.

The award resulted from Christian Chasset's many years of work in promoting the study of French language and culture in Hong Kong, through the commitment and the professionalism of the institute, which he leads.

“This award is not for me alone” says Christian Chasset, “it is an honour and a reward for my dear wife, Dominique, and for all our team at HK Institute of Languages, both past and present”.

At HKIL, we are all delighted and honoured to see our hard work and professionalism recognised by the French Government, and see it as an encouragement to do more, and to an even higher standard.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our students for their trust over the years. We would also like to thank all our business contacts, and especially our friends and Rotary friends to whom we owe so much.

French Government recognises French School in DB

We are also delighted that the French Government has recognised our work in Discovery Bay with the award of a FLAM subsidy to “Les Petits Lascars de DB”, a school devoted to teaching French to French-speaking children. This official recognition rewards not only the high educational value of the venture, but also the months of hard work and strong commitment from both parents and HKIL. “Les Petits Lascars de DB” offers French courses at Maternelle level, extra-curricular French from CP to CM2 for French speaking children enrolled in English speaking schools, as well as homework assistance or “Etude Dirigée”. Classes are limited to 7 children, offering an excellent teacher to student ratio. If you live in DB, and need French classes for your French or French-speaking child, do not hesitate to contact us at lascarscentral@hklanguages.com.

We are happy to announce that following the success of “Les Petits Lascars de DB”, we are now setting up “Les Petits Lascars de Central” which, from September 2007, will offer a Bilingual Maternelle (French/English) as well as extra-curricular French classes and homework assistance from CP to CM2.
