Foundation

Complete / False Beginners  

Our Cantonese courses are designed for adults who live in Hong Kong and want to learn useful daily expressions and practical language that can be put to use right away.         

Our proven methodology enables adult learners to quickly begin to understand and speak Cantonese for use in a wide variety of real-life situations.

In this ten-week course you will learn things like:

  • Greetings and basic conversation;
  • Numbers, times, days of the week, months of the year;
  • Going somewhere and using public transports / taxis;
  • Interests and leisure activities;
  • Shopping, prices and bargaining;
  • Eating out

By the end of the course, you will have a basic ability to communicate in Cantonese to ask and answer simple questions and to meet most of your basic daily needs.

Elementary
Level : Exam Options:
False Beginners N/A

For false beginners who already have a basic foundation in Cantonese.

Course content:

  • Jobs and occupations

  • Likes, dislikes, and preferences
  • Describing feelings and personal attributes

  • Invitations and appointments

By the end of the course, you will be able to communicate effectively in Cantonese in a broad range of everyday social and work related situations and to socialise with friends, colleagues or clients.

Intermediate
Level : Exam Options:
About 1 year of Cantonese N/A

For people with 1 year previous study of Cantonese - able to hold a (simple) conversation on various aspects of their daily life.

  • Giving opinions, agreeing and disagreeing
  • Expressing comparison and similarity
  • Relating past events
  • Discussing future plans
  • Expressing feelings / wishes
  • Expressing preferences and giving reasons

  • Special Chinese occasions and festivals.

By the end of the course, you will have extended your vocabulary, increased our listening comprehension skills, strongly developed your self-confidence and fluency, and be able to communicate confidently in Cantonese, using the appropriate level of language, for most social and work related aspects of your daily life.

 

Upper-Intermediate
Level : Exam Options:
About 2 years of Cantonese  

For people with 2 years previous study of Cantonese - who already have a solid grasp of Cantonese and are confident in using it in everyday contexts and who wish to develop more advanced conversational skills.

Crash Course

Beginners / False beginners  

Have you ever wished that you could speak at least enough Cantonese to communicate with the locals, or to socialise with potential business partners, colleagues or clients? If so, this is the course for YOU!

The ultimate objective of our crash course is for you to be able to obtain any information that you need, and to communicate what you want as quickly and effectively as possible.

By the end of the course, you will be able to socialise with friends, colleagues or clients, and to meet most of your basic daily needs in areas such as: meeting people and exchanging information; making appointments; giving directions to taxi-drivers; ordering meals in restaurants, and bargaining in shops.

Conversation Course
Level : Exam Options:
For people who want to improve their fluency and increase their self-confidence in Cantonese  

For people who want to improve their fluency and increase their self-confidence in Cantonese.

You can choose either to join the programme to complement your general Cantonese course, or as a stand- alone course. Different levels are available to match any level of ability from Elementary 1 through to Upper-Intermediate level.

At the basic levels, classes include a mix of activities ranging from listening comprehension exercises, role-plays and topic work through to group discussions, all designed to improve your oral Cantonese communication skills and confidence.

At the higher levels, classes focus more on group interaction through debates and discussions on chosen topics and contemporary issues, with the aim of encouraging everyone to be more vocal, while learning to express his/her views fluently and coherently.
